Last night my friend, Jennifer Chin Dussich, led a wine tasting featuring five summer wines, all blends, to support a charitable event. The charitable organization, HealingHandsofJoy.com, provides care to obstetric fistula survivors and safe delivery options for pregnant mothers in Ethiopia. We watched an inspirational documentary film by Allison Shigo, the organization’s founder, heard about life-changing care in Africa, and saw how meaningful this mission is to the American women that work for HHOJ.
As part of the fundraiser, Jennifer introduced five Summer Wines, all blends, from around the world – a crisp light-bodied white featuring Inzolia from Sicily (Regaleali Bianco) that has been a staple in her household, a fuller white with a large proportion of Semillion from Bordeaux (Ch. Ducasse), a sunny light rosé from Provence (Bandol), a fuller aromatic rosé from The North Fork (Bouké!), and a fresh young red Rioja crianza (Laztana). She helped the audience describe the appearance, nose and taste of each and suggested pairings for each wine. They freely shared their opinions and asked questions about each, and unabashedly said whether they would buy any of these wines. I was thrilled with the resounding “YES!!” for Bouké Rosé. It was a great starter for Memorial Day weekend.
